The Sri Rudram (Namakam and Chamakam) is from the Krishna Yajur Veda (Taittiriya Samhita, Chapter 4.5-4.7). It is the central liturgy of Shiva worship and the most important Vedic hymn dedicated to Rudra-Shiva. The Namakam contains 11 anuvakas (chapters) of salutations, while the Chamakam contains 11 anuvakas of wishes. The Rudra Abhishekam performed in Shiva temples uses this chant. It is especially recited during Maha Shivaratri, Mondays, and Pradosha Vrata. Performing 11 recitations is called Ekadasha Rudram; 121 recitations is Laghu Rudram; 1,331 is Maha Rudram; and 14,641 is Ati Rudram — the grandest Vedic ritual in Hinduism.
