Why This Date?

गोवर्धन पूजा उस दिन का स्मरण है जब बालकृष्ण ने गोवर्धन पर्वत को अपनी छोटी उँगली पर उठाकर वृन्दावन के लोगों और गौओं को इन्द्र की प्रलयकारी वर्षा से बचाया। कृष्ण के कहने पर व्रजवासियों ने इन्द्र यज्ञ बन्द कर गोवर्धन की पूजा की। पराजित इन्द्र ने कृष्ण से क्षमा माँगी।
How to Observe
गोवर्धन पर्वत के आकार में अन्नकूट सजाएँ — चावल, दाल, सब्ज़ियाँ, मिठाइयाँ। कृष्ण को अर्पित करें। गौओं को सजाकर पूजा करें। गोबर से गोवर्धन बनाकर परिक्रमा करें। मन्दिर में अन्नकूट दर्शन करें।
Significance
गोवर्धन पूजा प्रकृति-भक्ति और आत्मनिर्भरता की शिक्षा देती है। कृष्ण ने दिखाया कि समुदाय का पोषण करने वाला पर्वत और गौएँ पूजा के योग्य हैं। यह दीपावली का चौथा दिन है।
