Sri Suktam is one of the most ancient Vedic hymns, found in the Khilani (appendix) of the Rig Veda. It is the primary hymn for worshipping Goddess Lakshmi. It is recited during Lakshmi Puja on Diwali, every Friday, during Varalakshmi Vratam (popular in South India), and in temple rituals. The Sri Suktam describes the eight forms of Lakshmi and invokes Her grace for prosperity, progeny, cattle, and the removal of Alakshmi (misfortune). It forms the core of Sri Vidya worship in the Tantric tradition.
