This day honours Sage Vyasa (Krishna Dvaipayana), who compiled the Vedas, authored the Mahabharata, and organized the Puranas. It is also the day Lord Shiva, as Adi Guru (first teacher), began transmitting yoga to the Saptarishis (seven sages).
