The Vishnu Sahasranama is one of the most sacred texts in Hinduism, recited from the Mahabharata (Anushasana Parva, Chapter 149). It was spoken by Bhishma to Yudhishthira as the answer to six questions about the Supreme Being. It is recited daily by millions of Vaishnavas worldwide. Adi Shankaracharya wrote a famous commentary on it. Each name (nama) is a meditation. It is recommended to recite during Ekadashi, on Wednesdays, and whenever seeking spiritual merit. The Phalashruti (fruit of recitation) promises freedom from all sins, fulfillment of desires, and moksha.
