The Lalita Sahasranama appears in the Brahmanda Purana and is the foremost text of Shri Vidya tradition. It was recited by Sage Hayagriva to Sage Agastya. Each name is a mantra in itself. It is recited on Fridays, during Navaratri, and on Purnima. The text describes the Goddess from head to toe (Keshadi-padanta) and then from toe to head (Padadi-keshanta). It is the primary text for worship of Lalita/Tripurasundari/Rajarajeshwari. Regular recitation is believed to grant all four goals of life: Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha.
